Moving proven leaders into new positions will ensure we bring the best ideas from our two organizations to our new company. Executive Cabinet members are listed below in alphabetical order and report directly to Co-CEOs Chuck Beaman and Mike Riordan.
Joseph (Joe) J. Blake, Jr., Chief Governance Officer (CGO)
As Chief Governance Officer, Joe will be responsible for the coordination and management of all boards that relate to SC Health Company. Joe also will oversee the audit and compliance functions for the health company. Previously, he served as Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of the GHS Strategic Coordinating Organization (SCO). Joe has been with GHS for 10 years. Joe is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the American Healthcare Lawyer’s Association. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, and a Juris Doctor degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Michael Hildebrand, Chief of Staff
In his role as Chief of Staff, Michael is responsible for ensuring efficient operations of the Office of the Co-CEOs. Previously, he served as Chief of Staff to the Chief Executive Officer of the GHS SCO. Michael has been with GHS for 4 years. Michael received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and an MBA in International Management from Columbia Southern University.
Malcolm Isley, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO)
Malcolm will oversee strategy development for the health company and its affiliates. Malcolm will also be responsible for strategic planning, business/network development, real estate, facilities, marketing and communications, and public relations. Previously, he served as Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of the GHS SCO. Malcolm has been with GHS for 10 years. Malcolm received a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree in Health Administration from Duke University.
Terri T. Newsom, Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
As CFO for the health company, Terri is responsible for all financial functions of the health company and its affiliates, including accounting, treasury, budgeting, revenue cycle and contracting. Previously, Terri served as Vice President of Financial Services and Chief Financial Officer for GHS. Terri has been with GHS for 6 years. Terri earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Appalachian State University and is a certified public accountant.
Gregory (Greg) J. Rusnak, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)
Greg is directly accountable to the Affiliate Presidents to ensure operations in the Upstate and Midlands are supporting the health company. Greg also is responsible for the information technology/services, human resources, and supply chain functions within the health company, as well as overseeing all Affiliate Chief Operating Officers, post-acute care, and ancillary and support services. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for GHS. Greg has been with GHS for 21 years. Greg earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in health services administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
John J. Singerling, III, FACHE, President, Midlands Affiliate
John is responsible for leading the Midlands Affiliate to ensure efficient operations, engaged team members, physicians and volunteers, and delivering high quality patient care. The Midlands Affiliate is comprised of six acute-care hospitals and numerous ambulatory services, staffed by more than 14,000 team members including a 1,100 member medical staff. John also is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group with nearly 100 practices and more than 100 locations. Previously, John served as President of Palmetto Health. He has been with Palmetto Health for 22 years. John earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in health administration from the University of South Carolina.
Angelo Sinopoli, MD, Chief Clinical Officer (CCO)
Dr. Sinopoli is responsible for clinical care and the development of clinical integration, quality and population health strategy for the health company and its affiliates. He is also responsible for the Care Coordination Institute (CCI), MyHealth First Network, Palmetto Health Quality Collaborative, community health, and medical informatics. The Chief Medical Officer for GHS will report directly to Dr. Sinopoli, and the Chief Clinical Officer for Palmetto Health will have a dual reporting relationship to Dr. Sinopoli and John Singerling. Previously, Angelo served as Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer of the GHS SCO. He has been with GHS for 30 years. Dr. Sinopoli earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of South Carolina and a MD from the Medical University of South Carolina. He holds a professorship position at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville.
Spence M. Taylor, MD, President, Upstate Affiliate
Dr. Taylor is responsible for leading the Upstate Affiliate to ensure efficient operations, engaged employees and physicians, and high quality patient care. The Upstate Affiliate is comprised of eight medical campuses, over 180 physician practice sites, more than 14,000 employees including over 1,100 physicians and providers. Previously Dr. Taylor served as President of GHS. Spence has been with GHS for 25 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Clemson University and a MD from the Medical University of South Carolina.
Howard West, General Counsel
As General Counsel, Howard is responsible for providing and coordinating all legal services for the health company and affiliates. Howard also is responsible for overseeing the governmental affairs functions throughout the health company. Previously Howard served as the chief legal officer for Palmetto Health. He has been with Palmetto Health for nearly 39 years. Howard earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina. He also earned a master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and he earned his law degree from the University of Virginia.
